Autumn-Winter 2015 by Topman Menswear
1. New Utility:
Drawing references from military and the great outdoors, the utility trend fuses a masculine aesthetic with genuinely useful design detailing. This couldn’t be further from past interpretations of military – there are no silver buttons or embroidered epaulets – instead, look out for bomber jackets, overshirts with pocket detailing and workwear-style trousers.
2. Modern 70s:
Forget platform shoes and sequins, this trend isn’t about fancy dress – it’s about taking inspiration from 70s shapes and styling references and adapting them to autumn/winter 2015. The roll neck is a key item – particularly when styled under a western jacket in a tactile texture – and flares also appear in a new easy-to-wear cut.
3. Camel Shades:
Next season’s key colour trend is, without a doubt, camel. Expect to see camel in tailoring, knitwear and outerwear – either layered tonally with similar shades, or worn individually as a statement piece. The smartest way to buy into the trend is to get hold of an oversized camel overcoat early on in the season – we’ll have options available in September!
4. Denim Everything:
Despite being an ever-present in pretty much everyone’s wardrobe already, denim is in the spotlight again this season. The key is to leave your denim comfort zone – try new fits of jeans, new washes and go for denim when you would ordinarily have chosen another fabric. At Topman, we’ll be increasing our denim offering even further – with this borg-lined jacket a particular favourite.
5. Updated Shapes:
Whilst ‘shape’ may sound vague, the core idea of the trend is to challenge traditional silhouettes…but that was slightly too long for a headline. This is best achieved with cropped wide-legged trousers, oversized outerwear and longer length shirts and tops. We already stock quite a lot of long length clothing, so you can make a head start on that already.
6. Smarten Down:
Casual tailoring? Smart joggers? This trend has them both, as it juxtaposes elements of formalwear with items traditionally considered sporty or casual. You can nail smartening-down either by mixing up your dress codes – try a track top under a formal coat – or by buying into items like pinstripe co-ords and bomber jackets in suiting material.
